Why do I have to pay for my script/referral/report/chart done outside of an appointment?

There is no medicare funding in this situation. Medical practices are private businesses that need to cover costs, and are funded on the basis of fee for service. If there is no funding from medicare, payment must come from the patient instead.

 

Requests for services outside of appointments are numerous, time consuming and constitute overtime in addition to usual work. The expectation of doctors to work unpaid overtime is not one that I consider reasonable.

What sort of behaviours do you not tolerate?

-Aggression whether verbal or physical

-Unreasonable demands for treatments or investigations likely to do more harm than good

-Repeated missed appointments without notice given

-Dishonesty

-Misuse of medication: doctor shopping for addictive substances, unsanctioned dose increases, using medication prescribed to other people or for a different purpose than it was prescribed. Please do not ask for medication misuse to be endorsed as refusal may offend.
